The most exciting way to use promotional items is to gain leads and sales. In exchange for a response from a direct mail/e-mail message, promise a free gift (the gift being a promotional item). Many people think, "Why not?" and give a response. Even though there will be people who respond solely for the gift, your promotional item will be in front of them for a good while, and they may decide later to buy something from you.
